Being a Care Partner involves active collaboration and empathy, while being a Care Giver focuses on providing essential support. The distinction lies in the relationship dynamics and shared responsibility for compassionate care.

Here in our medium sized town there are almost no options. A lot of people moved away from home when they came here to this science community after WWII & in ensuing decades to work at the laboratories, so they don’t have immediate children or other family to help them, because the children did what they did & moved away. The insurance/state laws, meant to help people & mostly they do that, allow almost no 1 to be able to afford to drive others places. I keep trying to think of another model/way that we can help out, not just our clients, but others who just need that service of being driven. Hmm! How are other communities that don’t have taxis or buses doing it?

So are there not small spaces where an AI could help? (Never intending to replace people.) Such as (brainstorming for discussion,…) perimeter maintenance to let you know someone has left the house & how/where; AI in the kitchen that keeps track of calories, fat.. You can now know what’s in the food that’s been eaten w/o having to fill out big charts & things that might give clues to big & small issues. 🫤 A true food monitor in the house. 😮Not to make decisions, but to report. Communication AI that can be used to tell someone you’ve fallen, you’re stuck or you just need help. A morning program that slowly brings up lights, turns on music, starts the coffee. A program to put out small fires in the kitchen/house-while reporting to ER…🎉🙏🏼…hmm,…🧐

At stage 5/6, with only my husband & myself at home, it works well for us to have handled plastic cups in multiple rooms, including bedside. When he has the urge, he will use them (usually with my help). I encourage him to use 1 hand for balance & other to hold his shirt front up - I do the rest. He wears a brief 24/7 for dribbles & occasional ‘accident’. Then I just have the cups to empty out. Also LOVE folder paper napkins by cups, for those dribbles 😅 (Thanks Teepa, for all your valuable, informative videos ❤)

I think about how I’d like to be woken up in the morning. I’ve had times when family came in flipping the bright lights on & off, talking really loudly & when you’re a young person, maybe that’s OK. But it works a lot better when you’re older/not well/move differently to turn the lights up slowly & do it the way Teepa & crew does it, gently. You have a participant who’s much happier, more cooperative & responsive. That’s in the task with you. Not against you.

I can say I've never thought my mom's behaviors were something was a deliberate act against me, it hurt more to me than she couldn't do things anymore. I hurt for her. Fortunately for me, I had spent many years in Alanon, of all things, because of my ex's problems and I learned that I am the only one I can control. I would just be happy when she had days that she could do things. The only things that SOMETIMES made me take things personally was I'd ask her to go out for lunch and a little shopping, nope. But she went out every Wednesday with her church ladies for bible study. I went once to see what was going on and lo and behold, they had a huge spread of foods and goodies, enough to feed a small army, every single week... It wasn't me, it was that I made sure she ate healthy and at these events, nothing was even remotely healthy and I wasn't there to limit her. We took her to a BBQ once and she ate an entire t bone, several hot dogs, a couple of polish, a couple Italian sausage and Lord knows what else. Food was and is her obsession still. No control if it is where she can see it. I'd guess this is caused by her brain?

😂lol!! This is our 89 year old mom to a tee!! I'm often told that either, I'm not her boss or else her asking how do we think she's survived all these years without her grown kids telling her how to live. ❤Thanks so so much Teepa & crew. I started doing nursing home cna work back when I was in high school, eons ago & continued off & on for several years & thought I was prepared when I returned to my home state a few years ago to help my brother with our mom, who has dementia. I'm finding that much of what I've learned over the years has had to be thrown out the window because it was either totally wrong or that it's just different "because it's mom"....hopefully, that makes sense.❤
